Poems about wine

Coriole Wines had a poetry contest, and I entered it back in May of this year. I took inspiration in famous quotes about wine and developed poems in their theme. I did not win, and though I am disappointing, I must admit that I am still proud of myself for having enough guts to bring my poetry into the light. My next step is to incorporate the writing with art, and maybe eventually frame them for my walls.

So here they are... poems about wine by Gordana Andjelic-Davila (AKA Flying Gondola):

IN VINO VERITAS -- (Wikipedia – Latin proverb)
Cutting deep and shedding light, the truth at times is best kept in the shadows of the night.
The nectar of the gods is a muse to artists and bon vivants, with the creative fuse.
Beauty, joy and passion are evoked and its aphrodisiacal powers are provoked.
In Vino Veritas it is said and if truth be told, fantasy cannot leave the truth’s hold.

MAN CANNOT LIVE BY BREAD ALONE -- (A reference to Matthew 4:4)
When turmoil tears at a pair, love’s bonds are keenly tested by solitude’s lure.
Lacking a warm embrace and being alone, one finds it quite lonesome and demure.
Man cannot live by bread alone, as it is a partner he yearns for.
A twin soul he may not have thought to look for in the past, but it is what he needs all the more.

IN WINE ONE BEHOLDS THE HEART OF ANOTHER -- (Anonymous)
A life’s journey makes meandering turns, unearthing surprising revelations to much avail.
It continuously unfolds mysteries, truths and layers which at times may seem to lack significant detail.
Knowledge is gained by life’s challenges and a view which is broader.
Sometimes it may all be too complex, but one day it may dawn upon you that, in wine one beholds the heart of another.

WINE IS LIFE -- (Anonymous)
Nature’s symphony is composed by the wind and the leaves; so many-a-song has been ignored that nature grieves.
Its abandon and demise can be due to priorities gone awry, and the string of neglected years gone by.
Lest we forget of its nourishment for body and soul; focus on but one divine that of the creation of wine, and wine is life, much to the disagreement of your wife.
------------------------------------------------
LIFE IS TOO SHORT TO DRINK BAD WINE -- (Anonymous)
Step warily around a corner when you have offended many and have been a bother.
Take caution of whom you curse. Be frugal and beware of your purse.
Sometimes you might tighten your belt, but be careful of the counsel you may be dealt; for he be a swine who suggests you drink bad wine... life is too short to drink bad wine.
------------------------------------------------
A MEAL WITHOUT WINE IS LIKE A LIFE WITHOUT LOVE -- (Anonymous)
Light without darkness cannot exist. As such, neither can life without breath persist.
Pride and strife walk hand in hand as well, but the marriage of food and wine is that which astound and make you yell... for a meal without wine is like a life without love, and that my friend is the truth from above.
