Meghan Trainor

Grammy-nominated Meghan Trainor is performing her first big tour, trotting around the globe, with Melbourne being one of her stops in Australia. Even if you don’t recognize Meghan by name, unless you’ve been stranded on a deserted island during the last eight months, it is impossible to say the same of her pop phenomenon, All About That Bass, which ruled the airwaves for so long that, even her own mother expressed disbelief over the song’s mass appeal. It’s not surprising that Bass was, and still is, on everyone’s lips and minds; with positive self-love lyrics, catchy 1950s doo-wop inspired music, one can’t help but tap to it and nod in approval, if you’re a parent, and even if you’re not. At the risk of sounding like a fuddy-duddy, Meghan’s music successfully appeals to the young and the old, without the all too familiar in-your-face raunchiness present in both lyrics as well as in fashion choices displayed by some other pop stars (here’s one: name rhymes with “smiley”). Don’t get her wrong though, Meghan is far from donning a purity ring or claiming to be squeaky clean, as her songs’ lyrics do include some double entendres, and cheekiness. Here is an excerpt from her song, Dear Future Husband: “I'll be sleeping on the left side of the bed (hey) Open doors for me and you might get some... kisses Don't have a dirty mind Just be a classy guy...” And another example from, Walk of Shame: “Well, don't act like you haven't been there Seven AM with the bed head Everyone knows it's the walk of shame...” Some critics have accused Meghan of being an anti-feminist, but judging from the majority of the audience in attendance, no one seemed too concerned about what critics have to say in regards to their new musical hero, who last night delivered a hell of a show, and caused for the venue to vibrate with screams and positive energy. Meghan has a great presence on stage and has a wonderful chemistry with her adoring fans, interacting with them, pulling them onto the stage, shouting “I love you too... and I see you.” Last night’s show at the Forum is just the beginning for Meghan, this girl is going to be a megha-star.
